HOW EXTENSION ACTIVITIES TRANSFORM THE TRAINING OF NURSING STUDENTS AND STRENGTHEN THE COMMUNITY

ABSTRACT: This study describes extension activities carried out by nursing students from the UniFanor Wyden University Center in September 2024, in Fortaleza-CE. The actions took place within the Clinical Teaching disciplines in Collective Health, Mental Health, and Women's, Children's, and Adolescents' Health. In the Pau Fininho community, characterized by precarious housing and a lack of community health agents, a vaccination campaign (H1N1, HPV, Hepatitis B, and dTpa) was promoted, along with blood pressure screening and guidance on chronic diseases. Simultaneously, at the E.E.M.T.I. Sales Campos school, the "Yellow September" educational action was held, addressing the mental health of high school students through emotional dynamics, educational videos, and support. The results demonstrated that practical experiences strengthen academic training by linking theory to the real needs of the community. It is concluded that university extension is an essential component for training critical and humanized health professionals, promoting positive social impact and the democratization of comprehensive care.
