SDG 4: Quality Education (Health education for the general public and schools).

ABSTRACT: This study describes an extensionist experience developed by Nursing students in Fortaleza-CE, focused on teaching first aid to pre-university students from public and private schools. The main goal was to empower the lay public to act in critical situations through realistic simulation methodology. The activities took place during career fairs in the second half of 2023, covering crucial topics such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), airway obstruction maneuvers, management of burns, wounds, hemorrhages, and diabetes-related emergencies (hypo and hyperglycemia). The methodology included the use of simulation mannequins, controlled scenarios, and visual resources to create a safe and engaging practical experience for adolescents. The results showed significant interest and engagement from the youth, demonstrating that simulation facilitates the retention of technical knowledge and the building of autonomy for immediate interventions. The action highlighted the need to integrate health education into the school environment as a strategic tool to reduce mortality and minimize sequelae resulting from a lack of proper initial assistance. It is concluded that realistic simulation has established itself as an essential pedagogical tool, allowing nursing students to improve clinical and ethical competencies while promoting collective knowledge. The project reaffirms the social impact of university extension in training excellent professionals and preparing citizens capable of saving lives in real situations.
