Abstract

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: An Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a hospital sector specialized in the care of critically ill patients who require continuous monitoring and care, advanced life support, and multidisciplinary assistance. Aiming to better guide a large part of society on this subject, which is not well known except by those who have at some point been in or visited an ICU, this work aims to better inform and guide visits in the intensive care environment, seeking to promote the safety of visitors and especially patients, who need all the care and precautions as they fight for their lives. OBJECTIVE: This work aims to propose an educational and easily understandable technology for guiding visitors of patients in an intensive care unit. METHODOLOGY: The work was carried out in September 2025 by a group of physiotherapy students from a higher education institution. It involved selecting files from the internet with various folder templates, as well as research on the subject, including scientific articles in virtual libraries. After selecting the material, the content and artwork for the lightweight technology were developed to create a brochure aimed at guiding visits to intensive care units (ICUs) to ensure that the health of patients and visitors is not at risk, informing them of what is permitted and what is not, thus preserving the safety of both parties. The research was conducted in accordance with bioethical principles and fully respected Resolution No. 466/12 of the National Health Council, which establishes guidelines and regulations for research involving human beings. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: According to author Philip Kotler, a brochure is like a handshake; it is the first contact that conveys trust, clarity, and sparks interest in what we offer. The brochure produced by the team is divided into three parts: one explaining what an ICU is, one highlighting what is not permitted, and one describing guidelines for visitors. The brochure also includes illustrations to facilitate understanding, as well as clear and easily understandable language for the reader. CONCLUSIONS: It is concluded that the brochure is a means of transformation and guidance that becomes an important tool for knowledge about ICUs and how to behave within these units as visitors, in order to promote the safety and well-being of patients, professionals, and visitors. Once visitors are familiar with the environment and how to behave in it, visits can become more relaxed, responsible, and humanized, providing much greater health and safety.
